The International Criminal Court Committee intends to develop position papers on the United States' attitude towards and support of the International Criminal Court.
The Committee will focus on two initial projects. The US has recently announced that it will re-engage with the International Criminal Court. The first project will be a policy paper that will suggest details as to the form that that re-engagement should take. The goal is to suggests ways that the United States can productively assist the International Criminal Court in its work, while recognizing that the US is not yet prepared to become a party to the Rome Statute. The second project will be a policy paper that will suggest an approach for the US to take as it joins into negotiations related to the crime of aggression. These negotiations have been proceeding for a number of years in the US's absence, and, the policy paper will suggest an approach for the US to productively re-engage with this process.
The committee chair will additionally attend negotiations related to the crime of aggression, and report back to committee members, with the goal of producing possible additional position papers related to both the ICC/US relationship, and the crime of aggression negotiations. The Committee will additionally sponsor ILW panels.
