Call for Applicants – ABILA Media Officer
The American Branch is looking for a committed member to serve in the position of ABILA Media Officer.
Who we are: The American Branch of the International Law Association is the largest Branch of the International Law Association. The International Law Association was established in 1873 and is composed of sixty-three national branches (including the Headquarters Branch). It is currently the preeminent international non-governmental organization involved in developing and restating international law. The American Branch is dedicated to the study, clarification, and development of International Law and the advancement of peace, equity, and justice worldwide.
Position Summary: The Media Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing the overall media strategy of the American Branch and managing its social media presence. Work includes soliciting, writing, and editing content for our website, blogging on current events and ABILA activities, managing social media posts, handling email communication, creating graphics and flyers, working with the Membership Officer on the biannual Newsletter, and assisting with ABILA events, particularly its centennial celebration, which occurs throughout 2022, and International Law Weekend (ILW), the biggest international law conference of the fall, which will take place in New York City on October 20-22, 2022.
The Media Officer will report directly to the ABILA President, President-Elect, Chair of the Board, and Membership Officer, and work closely with the ABILA Board of Directors and Committee Chairs.
This position is scheduled to begin work as early as February 1, 2022. This is a part-time position that is expected to take 5-10 hours/week, with more hours anticipated ahead of major events or as needed. This is a remote position, but the Media Officer should be able to attend ILW 2022 in person (expenses for attending ILW will be covered by ABILA).
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a legal background (either a J.D. degree or working toward a J.D. or other law degree) with a strong interest in international law and practice. He or she must have a passion for, and strong understanding of, the mission of ABILA, excellent written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, the ability to multi-task and strong time management skills, and an excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and other social media best practices. Experience in graphic design and with WordPress is advantageous. He or she must also demonstrate a high level of professionalism and be able to work independently and follow through on projects.
ABILA will base compensation on the candidate’s experience.
